The eye and brain is much less efficient in interpreting a series of changing numbers than it is in observing the movement of a needle against a scale. It is is much easier to zero an analogue instrument than a digital one. And it is much easier, again, to assess the rate of change of a signal as it is represented by the speed of movement of a needle, that it is when that same signal is displayed by a row of digits in constant change.
That is this is a general verdict across a wide range of population is demonstrated by the short-lived popularity of digital watches, and their prompt replacement by the familiar analogue watch-face once again.

The Meteor2020D reads the current atmospheric pressure on its outer scale and provides a series of facilities in its quick menu at the touch of a button.One touch on the left-hand menu button causes the instrument instantly to expand its scale and provide a precision reading of the pressure to 0.05mB. Another touch, gives the slope of the pressure change in mB/hr. In the automatic forecasting version, the Meteor2020F, a further touch of the quick menu button gives a weather forcast for next 4 hours with 94% accuracy in the UK. The forecast which resolves between 26 possibilities is generated by an algorithm explained in an article in our knowledgebase.
The right hand button gives access to the main menu for setting the instrument and adjusting the backlight. This latter feature gives the instrument a very crisp presentation of the data and allows the instrument to be read accurately under any light conditions.
The Meteor2020D is an outstanding asset where precision, reliability, readability and rapid visual assessment of current conditions are essential. Where local forecasting is needed, the Meteor2020F will fit the bill very well indeed. Where computer interfacing via a USB port is needed, or where datalogging capacity is required then the equivalent instrument, the Meteor2020WX and the Meteor2020WXDL are recommended. These instruments are in an advanced stage of development.
THE FORECASTING POTENTIAL OF THE METEOR2020F
The welter of forecasts available on the Internet and elsewhere have one great disadvantage, they never apply to a very local circumstance. In any particular place, the immediate weather prospects depend upon the exact position of the isobars relative to that place and their movement over it. This means that for accurate local short range forecasting, on-the spot measurement of pressure and pressure gradient are indispensable.
