The Meteormetrics Limited, Meteormonitor system is a suite of smart instruments and software which can be
custom-configured and programmed to meet specific data gathering and management needs.
In its simplest form, it consists of a single electronic unit, monitoring variables and acting as a datalogger. Then can be added a base unit attached to
a computer to which the remote unit reports wirelessly. The data can be sent simultaneously to one ore more display devices, uploaded
and displayed on the computer and even uploaded to a Web server. In more complex systems, more variables will be monitored
from several remote sites and the data collated by the base unit and computer.
Although these units are custom built and programmed to suit exactly the client's needs, the system has been substantially pre-engineered
to minimise cost and delivery times. On this page we give details of some of the pre-engineered units and their capacities, but the information given here
by no means represents a limit to what can be done with a Meteormonitor System.
Please do get in touch if you would like to discuss, without obligation, the possible application of a Meteormonitor System in your situation. All enquiries are in the strictest confidence. Telephone the Principal Director of Meteormetrics Limited, and the Inventor of the Meteormonitor System, Kevin Scott on 0131-208-0402.
THE METEORMONITOR can
GATHER DATA - using a Meteormetrics Data Transponder to interface with
practically any sensor or suite of sensors, with 10, 12 & 15 bit Analogue conversion, frequency,
period and event timing, electrometer linear & logarithmic amplifiers, thermocouple amplifiers, I2C & SPI
interface capability, data from a very wide range of sensors and detectors can be accommodated
TRANSFER DATA - The Meteormonitor System is capable of Serial, USB & Wireless communications, retrieving data from remote
transponders via wired or wireless links, transferring data to a computer via USB and uploading to a web server
via FTP upload software.
DISPLAY DATA - The Meteormonitor System is equipped with the capacity of displaying data locally on remote or base transponders
using LCD displays, on computer screens, on small, stand-alone logging printers and via the Meteormetrics
Smart Analogue Display Unit. The System also has a portable handeld unit to which data can be transmitted, but which
also can configured as a controller
PROCESS DATA - All the units in the Meteormonitor System are controlled by their own microcontrollers ands
so data processing is always available and can be carried out wherever is most convenient. Noise filtering, time-averaging and scaling,
can easily be carried out at the the point of collection while more sophisticated analysis can be accomplished in a host computer.
PUBLISH DATA - The data gathered by the Meteormonitor System can readily be exported to Microsoft Excel or
other Spread-sheets, it can be published to a website in various forms or emailed in the form of periodic reports.
The following is by no means exhaustive, but it will give some idea of the range of applications which can be tackled using the Meteormonitor System.
METEOROLOGY: Atmospheric Pressure, Wind Speed & Direction, Humidity, Temperature, Rainfall, Light-level,
Solar Intensity.
GEOPHYSICS: Radio-activity monitoring, Cosmic Rays, Radon, Geo-magnetic Field Strength, Seismometry
BIOSPHERE: Soil pH, moisture & chemistry, Weather hazard monitoring, Pollutant monitoring.
INDUSTRIAL & COMMERCIAL: Plant monitoring, event counting, throughput analysis.
HEALTH & SAFETY: Working Environment monitoring, Air Quality, Noise Levels.
THE METEORMONITOR SYSTEM:
Some current developments.
The capacity and potential of the Meteormonitor System is continually growing. Here are some of the current
areas in which the potential of the system is being realised:
(a) The addition of new sensors including a new detector for cosmic and geological radiation,
a gas chromatographic detector and a time-of-flight mass spectrometer.
(b) The development of compact directional antennae to enhance the range of wireless communication while keeping the
power low.
(c) The use of radio repeaters for longer ranges
(d) The development of a logging printer module - this will function like the Handheld Monitor but will provide a thermal printout

The basic Data Transponder Card: capable of remote operation or base operation, it incorporates a variety of amplifiers
and interfaces, its own on-board clock to provide a timebase, RS232, USB and wireless communications.
It can be powered by its rechargeable battery, a solar panel or by a mains adapter. It is capable of 3 levels of power-saving: snooze, sleep,
and deep sleep, with progressive trade-off between power conservation and responsiveness.
